Studentstaden housing (Studentstaden i Uppsala AB) is available in
three main locations in Uppsala: Flogsta/Sernanders väg, Rackarberget
and Kantorsgatan. Exchange students in Studentstaden
housing will have good opportunities to meet with Swedish students
in the corridor since there are usually only one or two rooms per
corridor assigned to exchange students. Of course, some other students
from abroad may also be staying on the same corridor.
Rooms for exchange students have more furniture and are better
equipped than rooms for Swedish students, where furniture will be
gradually phased out and students required to buy their own furniture.
This accounts for the higher rent for the fully furnished rooms.
At Studentstaden an inspection of your cleaning will be made on departure.
Please note that in Studentstaden housing (all three locations)
you have to provide your own bedclothes, pillow, towels,
etc. and you must be prepared to buy some kitchen utensils.
Rackarberget is an old housing area, more centrally located, but usually
with single rooms without a bathroom. This is shared with some
five other students in the corridor. For this reason rents are lower
than in other rooms.
Flogsta and Kantorsgatan are large student housing areas a bit further
from the city centre. These rooms have their own bathrooms.
Rents in Studentstaden housing will be paid according to the following:
• Full-year students in 2005-2006 pay monthly rent from August 1 to
June 15. The half rent for June, however, includes continued use of
the room during the whole month of June and until July 15, free of
charge.
• Students staying only for the autumn semester pay rent from
August 1 to January 15 (in some exceptional cases rooms may be vacated
by December 31). They have to move out in the morning of
Monday, January 16, 2006, at the latest.
• Students staying only for the spring semester 2006 pay rent from
January 16 to June 15 (which includes continued use of the room
during the whole month of June and until July 15). They can move
during the afternoon of January 16, 2006.
Students for the autumn semester only who need to stay longer
than January 15 to take late exams, etc, will be assisted to find temporary
housing for the time after January 15. In a few cases they
may be able to keep their autumn semester room for some additional
time. In the same manner, students admitted for the spring
semester 2006 who want to arrive before January 16 may be able to
get a room before this date if this is clearly indicated on the housing
application form and contact is taken with Akademihotellet well in
advance. Of course, in such a case rent must be paid for the additional
time the room is used. The same arrangement is valid for
Ekeby, Döbelnsgatan. Lilla Sunnersta, and Hotel Uppsala as well.
During the academic year 2005/06 the monthly rent in Studentstaden
housing is between SEK 2,700 and SEK 3,050 (approx. EUR
300-340 and USD 390-450 /as of January 2005/) depending on factors
such as the standard of the room, its size and location. The cheapest
rent applies to rooms without a bathroom of its own.
