Hambo is a typical Swedish dance. The two partners have completly different steps, which make it more difficult to learn.
The 6th of Juni has been the National Day in Sweden since 1985. It is not a big fest even if it has happened a few things the 6 of june in the past century. Gustav Vase became king a 6th of june and the constitution of 1809 was made a 6th of June. The first celebration were made in 1893 and this day become the flagday in 1916. 80 years after, in 1985, it became the National Day of Sweden. This day is not yet a bank holliday but it should change in 2005.
During this day, the municipality honors the local stars like sportmen.
The local folkdans groups dance in front of the people. Some of the dance are typical of Sweden like Hambos. Polka and Schottis are also danced in Sweden. |

Nolagillet is a folkdance group of Örnsköldsvik. They dance during the Swedish fest like the 6th of Juni and Midsummer.
The 6th of Juni has been the National Day in Sweden since 1985. It is not a big fest even if it has happened a few things the 6 of june in the past century. Gustav Vase became king a 6th of june and the constitution of 1809 was made a 6th of June. Gamla stan: the royal palace - Change of the guard - Stockholm - Sweden |

The royal palace is locate in the old town of Stockholm. It has been rebuilt in the beggining of the 18th century when the old Tre Kronor castle was destroyed by fire in 1695. The palace is still inhabited but can be partly visited.
The guard change takes place on the outer courtyard. The guard comes by the Norrmalm bridge with their horses for the changing of the guards. Some "small" changes of the guards occurs also without the horses and big ceremony. |

Also the St Ronan church build in the 15th century and a chapel from the 15-16th centuries. Some chapels are located around the village.
Every 6 years, there is the Grand Troménie, a big religious event. The next one occurs in july 2007.
Don't forget to buy some couign aman, a speciality based on butter, butter and again butter ( very good). |

A good thing to do in Stockholm is to make a tour of the Djurgården island by boat. It takes about 1 hour and gives a good overview of the island and of its history.
On the picture, it is possible to see Gröna Lund, an attraction park in Stockholm, which has been there since 1883. The name of Gröna Lunds Tivoli comes from an old pub located on Djurgården island in the 18th century. At the beginning ofthe 18th century, there was quite a lot of pubs in this area.

The first sunday of March is nearly a national fest for swedish people. It closed the Vasaloppet week with the very famous Vasaloppet.
Vasaloppet is both a fest and a 90 km race between Sälen and Mora in Dalecarly.
About 16000 people participates to the races and there is about the same amount that are on the side of the track.
People starts to arrive at 6 in the morning to put their ski in the track of the start group they belong to. These groups are determined with help of previous results in ski races. The temperature is then about -20°C and everybody leaves the skis there and run near one of the fire to warm.
At 08, after a common warming-up, it starts quite slowly because there is a bottle neck just after the start.
There is food and drink available every 10-15 km and after 90 km, it is the goal: Mora, where everybody will say "Never, Never again". A resolution that will disapear a few days after when it will remain only the good side of this race. |

The city of Örnsköldsvik is located in MidSweden, 500 km north of Stockholm on the E4, the main North-South road in Sweden that can be seen on the picture.
It is also known among other things for the high-coast and the hockey team MoDo hockey. The name of the team comes from the former name of a pulp and paper company, Mo och Domsjö, that became successively MoDo, Modo Paper and then M-real when the Swedish group Metsä Serla bought the company.
It is also known for the Paradisbadet, a tropical aquatic center that can be seen on this picture. |

The royal palace is locate in the old town of Stockholm. It has been rebuilt in the beggining of the 18th century when the old Tre Kronor castle was destroyed by fire in 1695. The palace is still inhabited but can be partly visited.
The guard change takes place on the outer courtyard. The guard comes by the Norrmalm bridge with their horses for the changing of the guards. Some "small" changes of the guards occurs also without the horses and big ceremony. |

The first sunday of March is nearly a national fest for swedish people. It closed the Vasaloppet week with the very famous Vasaloppet.
Vasaloppet is both a fest and a 90 km race between Sälen and Mora in Dalecarly.
About 16000 people participates to the races and there is about the same amount that are on the side of the track.
People starts to arrive at 6 in the morning to put their ski in the track of the start group they belong to. These groups are determined with help of previous results in ski races. The temperature is then about -20°C and everybody leaves the skis there and run near one of the fire to warm.
At 08, after a common warming-up, it starts quite slowly because there is a bottle neck just after the start.
There is food and drink available every 10-15 km and after 90 km, it is the goal: Mora, where everybody will say "Never, Never again". A resolution that will disapear a few days after when it will remain only the good side of this race. |

Dear traveller, I am a true fan of Bretagne. I spend 2 weeks in summer (2002)in this wonderful, magic, fascinating region.
