Santa Lucia 2003 - Örnsköldsvik Allehanda et Lions

Santa Lucia came from Sicilia with some swedish soldiers a long time ago. At this time, people were thinking that the longest and darkest night was the Santa Lucia night, and that Santa Lucia brought the sun back.
Now, Santa Lucia comes with a candle crown on her head and sings the Santa Lucia's song. She brings with her pepperkaka and safran cake (Luciakatte).
The ceremony of Sankta Lucia starts with a cortege in the city. It is followed by songs in one of the churches.
Among other, the Santa Lucia song :
Natten går tunga fjät runt gård och stuva.
Kring jord som sol förlät, skuggorna ruva.
Då i vårt mörka hus, stiger med tända ljus,

Stockholm - Sweden
The royal palace is locate in the old town of Stockholm. It has been rebuilt in the beggining of the 18th century when the old Tre Kronor castle was destroyed by fire in 1695. The palace is still inhabited but can be partly visited.
The guard change takes place on the outer courtyard. The guard comes by the Norrmalm bridge with their horses for the changing of the guards. Some "small" changes of the guards occurs also without the horses and big ceremony.
